Tuesday: a ludicrously busy day
Jul. 23rd, 2024 11:00 pmR. and I both drove A. to school then went over to Mack. We picked up some hardware and talked to someone who will send email with a quote, and we will provide backset and final details and then we will soon have some things to install in our current home that will let us get familiar with things we plan to use in the future house.
Unusually, I am _not_ using initials in the next story, because I feel like this is something that someone might need to know.
While we were at Mack, Daniel from Bob Oates Plumbing in Seattle called, told me my “tenant” didn’t like him and so it probably wasn’t going to work out. I asked what happened, and he told me that he had told R. that an electric tankless hot water heater would cost “$13,000” when asked for an estimate after being told to forget that idea because it would be too expensive. When R. said I could afford it, he — and _this is from him directly_ — expressed in a contemptuous tone of voice that she shouldn’t assume that I would be willing to pay that whether I could afford it or not. He had a nasty little laugh when he said it. I said she wasn’t my tenant, she was a family member, and I would be fine with paying $13,000 for an electric tankless hot water heater but agreed with him that working together wasn’t going to work out so I said thank you goodbye. I think if you are looking for someone to show up to do a free quote, and you can’t afford much, maybe Bob Oates Plumbing is for you. We’re going to try to find someone who can at least be respectful enough to not chase away someone who actually wants something somewhat expensive done and who can afford to pay for it. The $13K is a little sus, but I’ll try to remember to update when we finally get this done. We’ve been trying to get a tankless electric water heater installed in that condo for over 10 years — last effort was around 2011 — and we’re really struggling to get anyone to do it and I honestly cannot for the life of me figure out why. If you are a plumber in the Seattle area and you’ve installed an electric on demand hot water heater in the Capitol Hill area, and you would like to demonstrate that you are an extremely different and more respectful plumber / electrician / company than Bob Oates Plumbing, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’ve got someone else scheduled to come out next Tuesday in the meantime, and we’ll just keep iterating until we figure it out.
A little check-in over at BBB reviews a real lack of information about various plumbers, A+ ratings on Bob Oates with 4 1 star reviews and nothing else. Kind of a head scratcher, honestly?
I had a couple calls with J. and flooring is moving forward again, as are the exterior doors that are not from Marvin.
The remodeler came over to look at the unfinished space in the attic. He seems great and we’ll get a quote in a couple weeks, start design a bit later, and the work will be scheduled in January. Perfect in every way!
I walked with M.
I had a very late lunch.
I picked up A., and we fed her some dinner.
We headed over to Nara in the evening for photos with J. Always fun! A. is always anxious. Oh well!
I had dinner with R. at Bamboo. We were a little late to go to Craft Beer Works to buy the King’s County Peated. Another time!
