Thursday: Animal Kingdom
Feb. 22nd, 2024 11:59 pmForeshadowing, while we did not know it at the time, this is our last day in the parks.
The day started about the same as the previous two: up at 7, buy genie, set up LL for Navi River Journey, bought Flight of Passage. I later added Expedition Everest. A. and I also added Dinosaur later and were on that when things went seriously weird.
J and the kids were running late, and as soon as they arrived on a Lyft they reversed course because N. realized he’d been overly optimistic. So J and N returned to the hotel, dropped N off and J came back to the park. We met B. where he’d been dropped off by Dino Bites (as far as they made it). I figured this was a great time to go into Restaurantosaurus, because B. does NOT like coasters and so did not need to do Expedition Everest. B. had already acquired a beverage; A. and I got chicken nuggets (we split one adult serving) and beverages.
Since I didn’t really trust anyone, when our River Journey LL came up, B, A and I just did it and then we waited in the shade on rocks for J to arrive. He rode River Journey. Then we explored the Flight of Passage gift shop so we could leave right after our LL and head to our 6 pm dinner at Citricos.
A little side note: this is the day my son was flying to Florida to visit MIL. His flight was canceled and rebooked to tomorrow at 6 am which is obviously Not OK. He called but already had a plan, which was to explore options on the current airline then others. He eventually rebooked on another airline and made it there in the evening. He also helped fixed up the screwed up tickets for later in the year for MIL. I’m very proud of him.
Anyway. We went to do our LL for Flight of Passage and the ride was partially closed and the queue was not accepting new entrants. WTF. So we found shaded places to hang out and monitored, and as soon as it popped a wait time (225 minutes!) I beat feet over to the entrance, and then over to the water fall and got us into the line when it officially started letting people in. We rode. It was fun. I put a mask on, because we were indoors and J kept putting his face within a foot of mine and talking very loudly. Not OK. Also, very much a barn door after horses departed decision.
Citiricos was lovely, but I bailed out early after eating the arancini and part of the duck confit (both small plates). The dumplings with the duck were _amazing_. I’d eat a plate of just those, happily and pay ludicrous money for the privilege.
I went to bed, hoping that maybe I’d be okay for the next day.
