Alas, no phone call with K., because I was too busy.

I cooked greens from the farm share and put everything else away. I cleared out some produce (mostly cabbage but some other greens) that was no longer good, and cooked some others and made cole slaw.

I picked up Priestess and we drove in to Boston and parked in the Christian Science Plaza garage. I thought we were going to have to do valet because there were not empty spots, but then I found the non-handicapped spots with electric chargers. Bonus! I had not charged the night before because T. was charging when I returned home from picking up Priestess, getting dinner and then checking her into the Residence Inn in Concord.

We walked over to the Mapparium. That was an Experience. So. Much. Empty. Space. The Mapparium itself is an incredibly hostile place acoustically, which is sorta cool but mostly just Bad. And then there’s the political boundaries on the map, which date from 1935. Going to see this with Priestess and getting to talk to her about it afterward was really, really helpful. If I’d gone by myself, I think I would have just been miserable and angry, but with her, it was a thing we could talk through and just … marvel at. I have such distinct memories of various adults who had no interest in looking at atlases or globes or whatever and when as a kid I asked them why the country markings on the globe or whatever gathering dust in their house was so different from what I was learning in school / saw on the maps / globe at school, they would all answer in roughly the same way. I can’t be bothered to learn the names because they all changed. At the time, and until … today … I just interpreted that as Having Escaped School, They Have No Further Desire to Learn Anything, which I didn’t really understand and mostly thought was kinda sad. But _now_ I heard something really different: I can’t be interested in something that is so far away and so unconnected to me, and no longer even owned by any group of people that I can feel any connection to. Pretty gross!

We had lunch at Lucy Ethiopian Cafe.

Things have changed since 2016 — no utensils offered, unless you want a box to take the leftovers home, in which case they’ll produce a spoon for you. I’m not complaining, altho I was initially confused because I hadn’t had Ethiopian in years, and the last time I think there was a stack of injera, rather than the cute little rolls. Once Priestess pointed to the rolls, I knew what to do. Tasty! We got the veggie combo for 2, just like the article (did not read the article until just now).

We stopped at Roche Bros to get groceries and then I took Priestess to the hotel to rest. She got dinner out of the leftovers and the groceries, and I had a greens omelette and sourdough for dinner, along with some of the coconut yogurt and part of a bar of chocolate. Priestess’ bag arrived (it detoured to DFW, somehow), so I got that to her, and she handed me hostess gifts (more chocolate! A cute elephant picture that is cut paperboard, with a lotus flower design in the middle of the elephant) and then we went back to my house for FF.

Lots of fun! Hopefully, we will get up in the morning and go to Salem, altho we might chicken out if we decide it’s just going to be too crowded.
