walkitout: (Default)
I did remember to order bread for this morning. It rained hard last night so the clothes are drying very slowly. Oh well! We have time on our side and in theory it is supposed to be much nicer weather for our remaining two days. We bought an umbrella for the walk back to the cottage from Poorthuys, because I had left our umbrellas at the cottage — that should hopefully Murphy us some sun. I had brought us jackets, and mine is basically a soft shell masquerading as a hoodie, but A.’s hoodie is cotton and very thin.

I got up kinda late again (8:30). I did duo (I have been consistently) and caught up on blogging, as I had not done that last night. I have really been trying to keep up, because reconstructing a trip of this complexity and length from home after the fact would be much less awesome in both experience of process and resulting product.

We got into the park even later, and stayed a shorter day. But we did do the monorail, which I adore, and we did Carnaval Festival, which is cute. We stopped in the oude marskamer shop, and I bought R. a large t-shirt which is a light green, has a line drawing of the frog king and says, Kus Me. Heh. A. disapproves. I think it is hilariously awesome. R. thought a large would be too big, but the medium would have been too small.

We ate at Polle’s! I got a vegan apple cinnamon sugar raisin and A. was indecisive between banana with chocolate sauce and bacon, but she had already eaten a banana and a chocolate croissant for breakfast so I ordered her the bacon. It was apparently great.

We were trying to find the entrance to Fabula (formerly Pandadroom, but new show), but wound up at the exit. We ordered the chicken sandwich plain, but A. wanted ketchup so we put it away for later. I ate the veggie burger, which was okay, but not awesome. She declined fries in favor of chips that turned out to be a weird air puffed then baked potato plus rice flour plus other stuff. I tried it. It was weird. The crunch was super satisfying but the flavor was odd, altho that might also have been the sunflower oil.

We wanted to ride Max & Moritz again, but the line was long (it was sunny!) so we went back to the cottage to rest. We watched some TikTok and I read a bit and napped. We returned to the park for the 6:30 Caro, where I had apparently gotten the best seats (ha ha who knew). Not a lot of talking, and all but two of the songs were English language pop sons (there was a 99 luftballoons in German and something in French that I did not recognize). Very gendered show, felt very 90s. Walking around the park and looking at what all the Dutch parents — who are all now way younger than me — are wearing also feels very 90s. We did ride Max & Moritz again and we also rode Fata Morgana and we were by the water 10 minutes before the water show Aquanura so we stayed for it. It was nice. But I forgot to order bread service in time so I will be getting up early to do that.

Late last night, while I was having trouble sleeping, I found twiddurs, which runs clothing donation bins. I have plans to reduce our volume of luggage by donating at least one of A.’s dresses. I did not feel great about throwing it away or abandoning it, and I suspected I would hear from other people along similar lines, but donation should address the issues.

[ETA: R. dropped the dress and A.’s slightly too small rainjacket at the twidders box next to the AH in Kaatsheuvel. Doing so created enough space for the 2 volume encyclopedia to make it home in A.’s rolling carryon.]
