Probably the most notable aspect of departing was that we immediately noticed the first time T. braked was a horrible grinding sound. R. initially said it was road noise, then said it would go away soon. It was not road noise. It did not go away soon.

Also, we stopped twice to pee, and had the choice to either stop at a McD’s and maybe get a snack or beverage also, or at a gas station. We decided to stop at a McD’s each time to “save time”, and both times there was a long wait at the women’s, in one case attributable to toilet paper being gone and the person in the other stall not responding to requests for paper from their stall AND that person also taking a really, really long time and flushing repeatedly. I eventually went out, asked for paper and really struggled to get anyone’s attention. I noticed the entire restaurant staff was communicating predominantly in Spanish and seriously entertained asking in Spanish for the toilet paper to be replenished. I think next time I will; it would be both more efficient and arguably more polite.

We got out more or less at the goal time, but traffic in Connecticut was not great. We rolled into Danbury for lunch closer to 1 than to noon, but not by much (I had hoped to arrive by 11:30). Prime Pub was every bit as awesome as I remembered. I didn’t have any alcohol this time, but I did get the DF fish and chips again. Perfect size, wicked hot, beautifully coated and fried and did I mention the perfect size.

After that, we continued on our way through on-again-off-again rain and thunderstorms. We got to Doylestown Homewood Suites at a little after 4, checked in, suite is great but smelled of paint. We boogied out immediately to go to 86 West and drove through buckets of rain, some hail and some worrisome thunder and lightning. We dashed through the downpour with only 2 umbrellas for 4 people and even fewer rainjackets. 86 West was phenomenal and the rain cleared up.

We left the fan running in the unit; the paint smell was tolerable even for A. upon our return from dinner.
