Thursday: Whole Foods
Oct. 6th, 2022 01:37 pmI went to Whole Foods. I went with the intention of buying vegan baked goodies. I got a chocolate glazed donut and a small container of vegan chocolate chip cookies. The donut was excellent; at least the first cookie was tasty.
The other goal was to get some chocolate bars. Priestess had been keeping me extremely well stocked with Theo chocolates, however, I finally finished the last of those, cleaned the tin I keep chocolate bars in (because otherwise the kids will try them, not like them, and complain, and this is literally the worst possible application of high quality dark chocolate), and decided to restock it with something other than Theo chocolate. I bought some Hu, which I used to sometimes get from Sunbasket, a Beyond Good, a couple ChocoLove (orange peel), a couple Alter Eco Mint Blackout, and 2 Wicked Dark Taza. There‘s still a little space in the box, so if I‘m somewhere I can still buy impulsively.
All that was maybe $50 or so on a $140 charge. What was the rest? Fake cheese, fake yogurt, Miyoko unsalted vegan “butter”, a lemon, a lime, some raspberries, brussel sprouts, baby bok choy, romaine lettuce, a pink sandwich container for A. (the sandwich container she used for years broke at the hinge), featherweight baking powder (which I have not had since pre-pandemic), three packages of La Quercia (american prosciutto, american speck and spicy jamon american), marmalade, and a jar of Bubbie’s bread and butter pickles.
I spent a lot of time thinking about how I went there to buy chocolate bars and vegan baked goodies, and came back with … that list of things. I don’t regret any of it. It’s just an odd list.
I took a hard look at both the bulk foods and the spices and walked away without buying anything from either of them.
Fun outing, tho.
(If you’re wondering why I didn’t at least buy some sushi for lunch, that’s because I’d left pizza dough proofing in the countertop oven, so I already knew exactly what I was having for lunch.)
