I’ve been trying to write something about personality disorder, and mostly failing. I resorted to bulleted list format for what I wanted to hit. Usually, if I’m trying to write something, and I cannot summarize it in 3 or 4 bulleted points, it is too large and unwieldy and needs to be broken up more. I stopped when I hit 9 in this thing. Yikes. This may in fact be what the I Can’t Stop Thinking About Your Brother book becomes next. A lot of what I’m poking around at involves intention in people with personality disorder. I’ve been feeling more and more that personality disorder is something that is done “on purpose”, altho not necessarily consciously. I’ve been waffling on whether I believe there really is a shattered self or if the personality disordered person is just an asshole / user (common response, I know!). I realized it might be helpful to get more aimed-at-clinician-material, but specifically within NLP realm, because their version of What Is Actually Going On Here is more accessible to me than many other therapeutic frameworks. That turned up this:

It’s really awesome in a ton of different ways. I’m working through it slowly, and realizing that it isn’t that personality disorder is done “on purpose”. It’s done “with purpose”, and identifying that / those purpose(s) is crucial to replacing the obnoxiousness with something that works better for the person (and, other people as well).

The NLP idea of Congruence is something I’d lost track of. I find that frame much more helpful than other ways of thinking about dissociation.

Anyway. There’s a bunch of helpful perspectives in that, altho a real risk that I’ll get distracted by trying to line concepts up across therapeutic approaches (especially first position / second position and subject / object stuff). I may also attempt to break up the 9 bullet points into a short piece per point and then connect them all (which might make sense in the book, actually).

Also! I did a bunch of cleaning. I got out the canister vacuum and did the stairs, some baseboards, floor, mats, under the shoe shelves by the door to the garage. I also cleaned the counter in the upstairs hall bath. I realized that neither the water pik (not that brand, but same type of thing) nor the electric toothbrush in there was currently being used, so I put those in the closet in the bathroom, and removed the spectacularly ugly thing plugged into the socket so that there were enough outlets, since none of the outlets were going to be needed anymore (a weird development!). So, decluttering and actual cleaning. Since I’d gone through a bunch of rags cleaning, I started a load of laundry.

I think A. and I are going to go out to dinner tonight. Earlier today, she cleared off and cleaned her (glass topped) desk. We did some decluttering in her room as well — removing Greener Pastures ribbons and similar, putting some charging stuff into a travel charging kit for her, etc.
