We ate breakfast, packed the van and headed out. It was a nice stay, and we could stay one more night, but we’ve decided that there’s no real reason to do so, especially since R.’s bike is completely busted anyway. This way, we can break the trip up going home, and have better meals and still get R. back in time to see a show on Saturday, if he feels up to it.

I pre-planned stops for lunch, to meet C., R.’s aunt, and to have dinner. I also planned a range of options for where to spend the night, depending on what time it was when dinner was done, and how long we felt like continuing to drive, and what traffic on the route ahead looked like. This all worked out really well.

Lunch was at Capitol Ale House in Harrisonburg, VA. It took us a bit to find parking, but the food was really good, and the beer was fantastic. I had a Brother’s Craft Brewing porter (Smooth Sailor, IIRC), which is a local brewery I would have eaten at if they had an attached restaurant. So, win! My fried oyster sandwich was excellent. I also had a coffee, which was super tasty, and that is honestly very unusual.

We met C. at Highspire Reservoir and walked with her for about a half hour. She had easter candy bags for us all, which made the kids happy, and gave us ginger ale to mix with whisky before bed. (the whisky part is on us! I doubt that was her plan). It was great to see her, and I was happy we could find a way to have a visit with effectively no risk to her (no touching, social distancing, outdoors, masked, walking).

We had dinner at Appalachian Brewing Company. The Thai Peanut Power Bowl was really yummy, as was the sour I had. Also, the old-fashioned was good. At least four vehicles with alpaca farm labeling on them in the lot, from various states. MAPACA’s Alpaca Jubilee is going on at the Farm Show complex and this is the closest non-fast food restaurant to the complex. Hilarious!

We decided to aim for Scranton, and I got a Residence Inn 2 bedroom suite. Alas, when we arrived, the fridge was broken in the market, so A. did not get any ice cream (but she did have all that easter candy. . .) and the pool was not functional. Oh well! Made it easy to get to bed early and up and out the door the next day. . .
