Wednesday: Lego Statue of Liberty
Mar. 9th, 2022 11:00 pmI did lego 21042 yesterday. Here is the Brothers Brick review, which is better than anything I am likely to ever write, at least in terms of reviewing a lego kit and build.

We already have a small model statue of liberty in the house — an M&M one from the Times Square M&M World that A. wanted to visit on our last trip to the city. It sits on the altar, and it is absolutely amazing how many people are happy to get a few M&Ms while entering, leaving or just being in our house.
This model, obviously, is much more true to its inspiration. In any event, I bought it because I bought the titanic kit (and built it as the Olympic, altho I still need to get some stickers made to cover up the remaining names — I mostly redid the little plaque that sits in front. And yes, I appreciate that there are some difference between the sister ships.), and I read an observation (somewhere) that the two were to the same scale. I thought, Oh Well Then I Guess I Must! Once I built 21042, and put it on the console table above 10294, I immediately thought, that cannot be right! But you know, it _is_! They are both 1:200 (which is considerably smaller even than microscale, which is 1:48, I think. Who even knows what minifig scale is). I’ve seen pictures and I’ve been on a bigger boat than that one, but for whatever reason, when I do a build, it gets through my somewhat thick skull in a way that other formats don’t necessarily.
We had date night and went to Sichuan Palace. The bar was pretty packed and I think we were the only people in the dining room while we were there. I had the eggplant with garlic sauce ; it was awesome. It had started snowing, but was above freezing so we didn’t really think it would stick or accumulate and boy were we wrong about that. Oh well! Freeway was slow, and we saw one vehicle being flatbedded out and another one pointed the wrong way on the shoulder. Fortunately that did not happen to us.
I had a delightful phone call with J. I had a delightful zoom with I.
