Today, I finally took T. to see his neurologist for the first time since 2019. She was, of course, amazed at his height, and his maturity. We made this appointment just on general principles, but also because he had a tic involving blowing air out through pursed lips. It was _really_ repetitive back in late summer, and resistant to the obvious first things to try (actually got worse when people paid attention to it, which is sort of how tics tend to go). Anyway, the regular doc wanted him to see the neurologist, and the school was concerned and honestly we found it pretty annoying too. My theory was that it was an adaptive mechanism from masks (blowing the mask away from his mouth) and I bought some frames (this was all months ago now) but he didn’t like the frames. However, we got him some KN95s, and those sit well away from the mouth, and he really liked that. Over time, the amount of puffing decreased altho it has not yet entirely gone away. Neurologist was supportive of our strategy.
We got there ludicrously early, because T. got out of school a little early. He was at Conant helping set up for lunch as a volunteer / occupational activity. They finished at 10:15, and I rolled up at 10:20 planning on sitting in the lot for five before texting him; in the event, he was watching me arrive and came right over, startling the heck out of me. We tried to find a subway close to the appointment, but it didn’t look great in terms of going over, getting food and returning in the amount of time remaining before the appointment BUT I looked up where Revolutionary Food Hall was since I remembered it was somewhere in Lexington. Lo and behold, right next door. _Literally_. So, after the appointment, we went over and I got the Korean lo mein veggie and he got a pulled pork sandwich. He was no fan of the cole slaw, but I tried it and it was great. Also, the bar there is amazing. They sous vide their own cocktail cherries and they are probably the best I have ever had. I had a manhattan with taconic whiskey. Very, very good. I’ll be returning long before the next neurology appointment.
I took apart the Lego Ideas sailboat, and I also dismantled the Belle and Beast’s Castle. I don’t yet have specific recipients in mind; I’ve offered them up on FB and will see if I get any takers.
