Thursday: UO
Dec. 30th, 2021 11:00 pmFull day at Universal. We took the walking path and I have to say that if we return to Universal after the February trip, I’m going to try to talk people into staying at Hard Rock because honestly the walking path is so much shorter than from RPR.
We went in fairly late ; I was trying to take the day off entirely but A. wanted to do rides. We went in on the Studio side (where the walkway comes out, so very close), and did Minions. We got pins, a wrist lanyard, 2 t shirts and a really awesome hat. We usually get stuff in that shop, but this was above average.
We went over to get lunch at Mel’s, but the line was crazy (1230, this is why I always get lunch at 11), so I mobile ordered at Richter’s and we walked over. A bit of a scrum, but good. After the diner, we realized that we could order A. a plain grilled chicken sandwich platter and a coke, and she eats the grilled chicken, then she eats the bun as if it were bread, and drinks the coke. Works out. I get a no cheese burger and fries and everyone is mostly happy.
We went back to do Transformers, which she was done after one ride. Then we did Gringott’s, and I foolishly picked single rider for her, and it took forever. Oh well! Unlimited express was taking most of an hour also, so who knows which would have been better. I sat in the exit line, so I was air conditioned and sitting on a mostly clean floor (before the gift shop/locker fork, so I couldn’t miss her).
After that, we went back to the hotel, but we stopped to buy popcorn and a cold drink on the way out.
Dinner was at Jake’s at RPR. I got a mystery call to my cell from a shuttle driver to pick people up to go to RPR, and I was like, weird, cause I’m going there, but we’re driving? I asked R. about it, and he had not called them so I shrugged. Turns out (I found this out on departure day) my sister didn’t want either of them to have to drive, so she’d called for it, and I accidentally canceled it. Ooops. She didn’t volunteer the info. I had to ask.
A. had been having a lot of allergy issues: runny nose, sneezing, coughing, hives on both hands and the back of her wrists, and also on the back of her neck. I had her completely stop using the hand sanitizer and soap, which was a struggle, but she did. Attempts to have her stop putting it on the backs of her hands were a failure, so we went full stop. I used lotion, and I gave her zyrtec every morning, and we then started supplementing with half tabs (quarter dose) of benadryl. That got the itching to stop, but didn’t make anything go away. To be fair — for all I know, this was actually covid. No fever, no loss of taste or smell. Not even that tired, really. Normal tired for a vacation this long and this crazy. I had her start using an umbrella whenever we were out in the sun, and that plus lotion really helped the back of her neck. That part at least was sun exposure in part. But the hands and wrists are persistent and I don’t know what to do about that. Quarter tab of dramamine helps _a lot_ but wears off pretty fast.
