In a normal school year, the last day of school is a flurry of activity that involves a lot of Don’t Forget To … regarding summer/ESY, next fall, etc. Not so this year! It is abundantly clear that the staff and faculty are every bit as glad to not think about school for as long as they can get away with it as we all usually are.
It would be hilarious, except it is mostly just kinda grindingly exhausting.
I reminded everyone several times over the course of the afternoon / evening to TURN OFF ALL THEIR ALARMS. We can all sleep in, so I figure we should take advantage of it.
There are all kinds of interesting news things happening (17 year Boeing - Airbus dispute between the EU and US resolved!) (UK Brexit was all about trade deals, supported by UK farmers and, predictably, the first trade deal is great for customers of Australian lamb and not so much for UK farmers!), and, showing once again that we are back to the Before Times, the NYT and TRMS are mostly focused on beating up the DOJ for not moving quickly enough for them (impossible for numerous reasons) and Amazon, because, Amazon. I’m starting to think that Amazon has Prime Day in June mostly to exploit the extra press they get then. Negative attention is attention.
I’ve never been a Sell In May and Go Away type of person on any level, but I _have_ in the past stopped watching the news (I never really stop reading the news) during school breaks. And this school break is looking like a doozy. As R. observed, the regulars are catching up on years worth of missed vacation at this point, so the people left covering … are the ambitious youngsters (shudder) and the ones who never managed to scramble up the ladder .
