Friday: phone calls, plumber
Mar. 5th, 2021 02:16 pmThe plumber came today to install a bunch of water filters (under a sink in the master bathroom, under the kitchen sink and a whole house one, alas, missing the fancy one because it is backordered). Of course, that means the water is turned off now. But soon it will be back on.
I had a series of phone calls. The Skype for Business invite did not work for me, so that turned into a regular phone call. Whenever one of my brokers sets up a call with an expert in some sector I have taken a sudden interest in, I feel _really sorry_ for the people that get stuck talking to me. It is NOT a pleasant experience. I mean, I don’t mean to be gratuitously mean (I actually work pretty hard to NOT be gratuitously unpleasant). But basically whenever this happens, a domain expert in a particular financial sector who is used to bringing someone largely unfamiliar with the field up to speed is unexpectedly dropped into a conversation with me, who has just spent time absorbing an unholy amount of detail about the field, its history, major evolutions over time, and current gossip, and who has a theory about what is about to happen next that the expert has never, ever heard of. Worse, backing me up is a disturbing amount of money and one of their own who has told them I have a relentless habit of turning out to be right. So, they are confronted with wacky, and ... it’s not fun. I feel bad for them. This expert was above average in many respects and did actually contribute useful information, along with the usual bits of Received Wisdom that are dead wrong and not particularly important but nevertheless basic factual errors. The person who has put up with me for a decade and a half is busy pursuing more detail on the useful information to figure out whether or not it is worth adding to the pile of What I’m Gonna Do Next.
After those two phone calls, I got to have my weekly phone call; it was delightful. She was very understanding about the delay. Also, I got to update her on Florida Man.
I am behind on blogging; I will go correct that. ETA: Done
Also,Walden order arrived, and the rest of the Kohl’s order. I _really_ like the coat.
