This was supposed to be the first day of April week. A. was supposed to be going to Empow Studios in Lexington to go to her STEM day camp. She was looking forward to it for months. Ah, well.

In this actual universe, I have a credit at Empow Studios, and maybe someday we will have them do some virtual thing that my kids can do with friends on the west coast. We shall see!

I took A. for a walk. I also walked with M.

There was no school, because of Patriots Day, however, the rest of April week is regular distance learning (and that is a concept right there, regular distance learning). We are getting clear signals in the news to brace for an announcement that kids will not return to in-person schooling this school year.

I am increasingly excited by the prevalence information coming out of Boston area. Someone used a quick test for IgM and IgG (https://www.biomedomics.com/products/infectious-disease/covid-19-rt/) on people in Chelsea who had not had a positive test for C19. Out of 200, 64 were positive. While the test is not the most sensitive or specific, a third is a lot — there is a real signal in there.

Pine Street Inn tested all the staff and residents. 40% positive (these are the PCR tests that just do not have false positives), all asymptomatic in this round (they had actual symptomatic cases I think, that resulted in this more global round of testing). If you are even remotely a decent human person, you should be hoping they stay asymptomatic; if they just are not showing symptoms *yet* the death toll in the homeless in Boston could be really, really horrifying.

Meanwhile, in the twitter verse and elsewhere, people who I had a brief period of respect for are busy arguging that the Santa Clara study (which showed much lower prevalence) did scientifically irresponsible things. Lots of people responding by pointing to the NYC maternity study (15%) and the Chelsea survey (above) and getting zero responses from the scientists.

Also, in South Korea, cloth and surgical masks coughed into by people with C19 show detectable levels of viral particles (no, do not know if those are infectious or not) on both sides of the mask. More on the outside, and they swabbed the inside first. *shrug*

Oil has managed to fill up every available vessel, and that has *insert expletive phrase here*ed the oil futures market.

Stay safe out there!
