Monday: In Which I Mostly Stay Home
Jan. 6th, 2020 11:00 pmI mostly stayed home. And yet, it was like I had so many social interactions, I felt like I had gone to a small party.
First, the electrician came by to redo the box in the dining room ceiling. Now, we can not worry about what might happen with the somewhat heavier lamp suspended there, and if I get a wild idea to hang something even heavier, that is also okay. (You know, like, involving a fan, or dripping with crystals or whatever.)
Second, my good friend and Dutch teacher and his husband came by after a meeting they had in Acton at The Orange Table. A. has a new business idea! I am super excited. Also, very happy to get to see both of them, even if J. left in a very few minutes to catch a ride to the airport. They brought me a bottle of Back River Gin! So I now have actually _good_ gin in the house to make drinks with for visitors; previous bottles of gin around here can, at their kindest, be described as hopelessly pedestrian.
I had a walk and visit with M. Lovely to get to walk without worrying about ice.
When I picked up A., I saw J. and another friend at pickup. That is always so pleasant.
I had delightful text exchanges that were on and off through the afternoon and evening with R. (my Priestess) and K. (who sadly had to again cancel our regular phone call, but, hey, we got to chat!).
Kids made it through the day mostly uneventfully. I stripped beds, laundered sheets and remade the beds (just two — I got T.’s a few days ago). We had a Sunbasket for dinner that was root vegetable panzanella with cremini mushrooms and croutons and black beans. It was really good — I was somewhat skeptical, but it was dairy and allium free so at that point, I just gotta try it, right? I had never even heard of a panzanella, so I learned something, too!
ETA: I opened up the smoked salmon from the Imperfect Foods box and had that on a baguettte with home made pickles for lunch. Yummy.
