Also, because we should not forget formerly oppressed people just because they are mostly assimilated now, Happy Italian-American Day!

For west coasters, never mind. It is a regional thing.

We used to always go up to NH to do Santas Village and StoryLand for closing weekend. I am super sad that we did not go all year, because T. has decided they are too old for it, and A. is choosing not to present an alternate opinion. I cannot complain too much, because we did other fun things this year, but I am feeling it this weekend as we are at home.

Well, I am at home.

T. is with the sitter. I dropped A. off at a one day day-camp. I had planned to hang out at a coffee shop for a bit, followed by a visit to a friend in Lexington (10 minutes away from the day camp), to maximize the likelihood of being close by in the event of a call. Camp is nominally 9-4 with checkin starting at 8:30, and checkout ending at 4:10. We got there ridiculously early (at 8:30) because there was no traffic. At. All. This regional holiday is in fact actually observed by all the families whose kids get the day off. R. said a huge chunk of his work site was absent. Anyway, it was apparent within 10 minutes that A. was completely comfortable, so I came home to hang out with T. until the sitter arrived. Once she got here, we went over the next several weeks on the schedule. Of the upcoming 3 Thursdays, she will spend one with T., including taking him to track (which is earlier now, thus better for her in terms of getting him back home at a reasonable time); the other two she wants off for trick or treating with her grandsons (Hudson downtown does an event one week early). So that has been settled nicely. We talked about upcoming travel, and also the swim lessons for T. that I will attempt to register him for tomorrow or, possibly, next week, depending on whether they let us participate in priority registration.

I went to Trader Joe’s.

I had a nice, quiet, calm lunch.

I had a walk with M.

It has been a remarkably pleasant day, altho I still would have preferred to have woken up in North Conway. Oh well!

ETA: I also called the movers to confirm the pack and move date (no, I am not moving!). I called the dentist to move T.’s upcoming and inconveniently timed dentist appointment. It has been a remarkably efficient day so far.

ETAYA: Matt Levine linked to this at the end of today’s piece: https://www.cnbc.com/2019/10/11/ken-fisher-inflames-financial-advisors-with-sexist-comments.html

I particularly like these two paragraphs:

“The Tiburon CEO Summit has a “no media” policy, and attendees are asked not to quote speakers without their approval.

“While Alex did technically violate the Tiburon CEO Summit media policy, he recognized that the issues of dignity, respect, and inclusion are more important than the Tiburon CEO Summit media policy, and he took action,” said Chip Roame, managing partner of Tiburon Strategic Advisors, sponsor of the conference.”

While I hesitate to say this puts Roame on the side of the angels (he could just be smart enough to keep himself and the various components he manages out of the shitstorm), I feel compelled to applaud the choice he made here. Sure, you have a policy. Sure, the policy is designed to get people to speak freely. But if someone jackass uses your protection to say reprehensible things unrelated to finance and investments at your finance and investments meet and greet, why shield them from the consequences? The policy is there to protect the finance and investments part of speaking freely.

Also, I would sooooooo like to see the end of these kinds of policies. If someone is paying the big bucks to hear some jackass shoot his mouth off, I do not see any reason why they are not allowed to share what they heard under some kind of fair use policy, without pre-vetting it to make sure that the jackass is protected from the natural consequences of their braying.
