When we got home from our trip on Friday, I noticed some dead yellow and black stingered insects in the living room. I went, hmmm, and got the vacuum and did not think much of it. Then I saw more. I started a Note, to log positions (I briefly thought about photographs, and dismissed the idea as overkill).

A day or so later, I found more. One might have been there from before (tucked just under the bookcase by my recliner). The other two were fresh: one was still moving sluggishly. So I left a message with the Bee Guy.

I had to check the outside more than once to figure out where the nest probably is. I have found where the entry point is, but I think the nest is within the vinyl siding. I think they are coming in around the gas fireplace, which is viable because R. turned off the pilot light to reduce the amount of heat generated there during the summer. I have asked him to start that back up again to discourage the flyers. They are not swarming, so you do not to feel that bad for me. I used to find them in the basement (dead) so I think this nest might be pretty well established. The Bee Guy can’t make it out until Friday, which he was super apologetic about. He says that the colder nights make the warm house more attractive.

Until Friday, my morning routine involves vacuuming up the bodies in the morning. Today, I only found one, right by the fireplace. Tricky to see, on the black granite hearth, but I am pretty sure it was not there yesterday, because I had found another one in the area and vacuumed it carefully and searched it with a flashlight.

ETA: Missed posting so much! Great, long phone convo with J. Nice to get to do that again. Last minute pool party at the house of a friend of A.’s from 3rd grade / previous school. Tons of fun. We had champagne, and Moet Brut is fine. Alas, I got stung by a wasp — they have a nest too. Apparently lots of wasp activity in town! I had a kid benedryl, so I could only have a very little of the sparkling. R. and I had date night. We went to Bamboo. I had the moo shi, which I have not had in a long time. It was yummy, but that was a loooooot of sodium for me.

I did not have my phone convo with K., because she got back from swimming late and between the benadryl, the sparkling and the sake, not to mention lingering jet lag, I completely conked out.
