Tuesday: first day in the UK
Aug. 20th, 2019 11:00 pmWe went to bed early last night, and did not bother with breakfast — snacked out of the food bags. We got a taxi (this was a properly enormous van, thus not amazing that we fit) to the Europcar in Cottingham. The Mercedes we were assigned had even less space than the one we had in NL, so we swapped for a Ford Focus which was honestly way more comfortable and roomier so let that be a lesson to all of us.
We dropped our bags at Willerby Manor, then drove to Beverley to meet our cousins. They are wonderful! Lovely house, lovely people, everyone very polite and welcoming. We went into Beverley and stopped at St. Marys and The Minster, then had lunch at Witherspoons (sp?), which was fine, altho there were issues (they were all out of ketchup!!!!).
Eventually, we went back to the hotel, checked into our rooms and had an early dinner at Figs Brasserie. I had the vegan jackfruit louisiana bbq burrito (for real — it was pretty good). No cocktails, but they told us about NuBar nearby, which we will hopefully get to eat at later on this visit.
