After two nights in a row with A. burping a lot and being uncomfortable at night, I decided to do something about it (I mean, other than get her a bucket in case things got ugly, which they did not, and some GasX).

Step one: reduce meal size. Step two: add more exercise.

Reduce meal size is not actually that hard, once she understood that the goal was to reduce the uncomfortable burping and reflux that was bugging her when she tried to sleep (this is something that runs in her father’s family, but which I have very little personal experience with, despite eating more and being heavier than all of them). I helped out by doing things to reduce the calorie intensity of the things I make for her. Chocolate in a smore got cut in half, for example, as well as reducing the number of smores per day. Baby steps, I know!

We also tried to make sure she stopped eating earlier in the evening, but that was harder, because she was hungry, and it is too hard to sleep while hungry.

We walked down Prospect towards the new houses in the morning, and we walked over to Hennessy and down into Hennessy and other streets there in the afternoon.

Collectively, it was a success: there was much, much less burping tonight and she was able to get to sleep a lot more quickly.
