Sunday: trail run, recital
Jun. 16th, 2019 08:23 pmI had to get up this morning to take T. to his last track of spring, a trail run. He seemed to have a good time, and I started reading _The Fire This Time_. I wound up reading it on and off throughout the day, and, while of course it is heartbreaking, it is incredibly beautiful and well written (in many different voices, because of the many different contributors of essays). I was particularly sensitive to how many of the essays combined thoughts back to childhood in the context of having children oneself, and wondering what to tell them and how. Obviously, there are significant limitations in terms of my ability to really understand what the contributors must live with every day, but I really appreciate that so many were so willing to share that experience and I will do my best to remember and keep it in mind.
T.’s friend had a music recital this afternoon. The friend’s parents picked up T. and he went with them. It was just down the street so not really at all out of the way for them, but a very nice thing for them to do, and another example of how T. is increasing both in independence, and in making friends. I could not be happier about all of this.
Everyone has a cold, which is a bummer.
I asked my son what he wanted to do about lunch and he suggested Julie’s Place. When my daughter heard that, she wanted to go, too, so we all headed down there, where everyone else apparently had the same idea. Which was fine. We hung out in the bar until there was a booth for us and we had a nice time.
R. got up around when we came back from lunch. He was so out of it he failed to grasp the pun on the Fa-Thor (T is a hammer) t-shirt I got him. Oh well!
The Sunbasket order arrived and was NOT doubled up this time. I am grateful for something that until last week I had not realized I could be grateful for. I had half of the oriental chicken salad for dinner and it was excellent.
