A.’s clothes from the Gap arrived: sale jeans in pink and pink floral, a dress, etc. I bought them in two different sizes, because we are still in the as-long-as-it’s-pink-I-like-it phase and it is getting increasingly difficult to find things in her size that are Pink Enough. These ones passed, and are the first jeans she has worn in years; she’s been in leggings for a while, but wanted pockets, so I found stretch jeans.

T. had swimming and then went to a different pool for more swimming. That was weird, when the extremely full swim bag came home.

I didn’t do a whole lot; I wasn’t feeling well. I cooked the paella dish from Sun Basket; it’s not as good as the Ezogalin soup was. I left a bunch of the tofu out, because it was Way Too Much Tofu. I sort of wish they’d skipped the tofu in favor of a lot more peas.

I watched the NCIS episode. It felt like a weird mashup between one of those Review Shows where there are tons of references to previous episodes, and a Make the Audience Jump Show. Neither is a fave of mine.

I also watched the rest of Jumanji (the new one). I really like Dwayne Johnson and Karen Gillam, and I particularly like both of their senses of humor which were nicely on display. Other than that, I didn’t love it — I don’t like Jack Black, and the whole warped Put Adolescents In Danger To Make Them Grow Up thing has never done it for me. But SPOILERS at least they send Vreeke back to his origin time point.

I had a nice walk with M.

I’m finally working through some backlog of minor tasks (renewing memberships, type of thing). In a typical year, I would be doing this kind of thing as a way of procrastinating about taxes, but the snow days really put a wrench in that process because we just did the taxes. I am not complaining.

I read the first PurrMaid book to A. I actually really like this series — _The Scaredy Cat_ introduces all the characters, and their teacher. They are supposed to collect something special to share and the girls wander out further than they are supposed to and have adventures. The sequence of looking in the place they intended, getting distracted teaching Coral to do flips, getting lost, finding the shipwreck, making a new friend, etc. is entirely plausible. And way, way, way cooler than the book could otherwise have gone. A lot of kids series books wind up having kids get in so far over their head and then adults not helping AT ALL that it is kind of nice to read one where the kids get in a _little_ bit of something, but it is well within their capacity to handle, they do, and it all turns out great. It feels like the safer kind of adventure / learning, without the terrifying / threatening elements. The It Rained But We Found a Shelter and Played 20 Questions With Other People in the Shelter Then Finished the Hike When It Stopped kind of story, instead of the It Rained and We Got Hypothermia But Toughed It Out And Got Yelled At kind of story. The first kind of story makes me want to go hiking. The second kind of story wants to make me want to live alone and never leave the house again. (<— Hyperbole.) #16.

ETA: I made guacamole using an actual avocado, instead of just opening a package of Wholly Guacamole. Wow. I had forgotten how much better the real thing was. Just, wow. Also, no salt added. I did use lemon, which I suppose is technically wrong, and I also didn’t have any cilantro, but I clearly need to quit buying the little packages and eat the real thing made fresh because there is just no comparison.
