Wednesday: Transition to UO, Hard Rock
Dec. 29th, 2021 11:00 pmTransition day! I had canceled our HS reservation for today. My sister told me they’d be at Universal at 9ish, so I was aiming to get there before her so as to smooth the path into the parks.
We arrived at Hard Rock in good time. I gave the nice man who delivered our bags to our room a $50 when he delivered them in the late afternoon and he said it made his day, no, his week. I guess that’s one way to calibrate tipping level.
I got all the room keys (they were not ready yet) and bought my sister’s family their tickets and dug out the lanyards (which I had in my backpack!) and set up their lanyards, and also dug out our annual passes and set up our lanyards. T. went off to do rides. At some point earlier in the trip, I set up two group SMS: one for me and my sister’s family, and one for everyone in both families. People have been really good about asking when and where dinner is when they don’t know.
A. and I went into the park and did Islands. We took the boat both ways. We tried to get lunch at Confisco, however, they were not taking walk ups. We got lunch at the Diner in comic book land instead. I rode Spider Man once; she single ridered it a few times.
We walked over to Forbidden Journey, and she did that a couple times. By then, the hotel rooms were ready, and I told everyone. We went back to the hotel, checked in, had our bags delivered and got ready for dinner. No glassware in the room, but R. had come back from his ride with the whisky, so I got a sprite from the lounge and made a Woodford and Sprite, and it turns out that is what I remember 7&7s tasting like when I was a little younger than A. Fantastic. I used a paper coffee cup for it.
Dinner was at The Kitchn. Craig came by and did magic tricks, and returned to collect a tip from Roland later.
