A few days ago, I posted about an absolutely amazing bit of brilliantly acted (altho clearly heavily rehearsed) humor in Jungle Cruise. I can only just _barely_ stop shipping Lily, McGregor and Skippy. It is sooooo much fun.

Weirdly, according to this piece in Vulture, Johnson in this movie and in most of his other recent enormously successful movies has been “flattened” in a de-libido’d, chaste sort of way.

I’ve got absolutely nothing useful to say to that. I can _kinda_ see where the author of the piece in Vulture is coming from, but I remember watching The African Queen (more than once — I like Bogart). There is no hint of a possible threesome, much less a Rock Sandwich in The African Queen or _any other Bogie movie ever_. Even movies like _Beat the Devil_, which are rife with all kinds of possible combinations, don’t have anything like as wonderful as that bit. (Altho there are moments in Casablanca, where I wonder what exactly Rick has going on with that beautiful friendship with Renault. But the dialogue is far more subtle than what shows up in The Jungle Cruise.)

And this is not the first movie with Dwayne Johnson playing a character that is open to a lot of possible interpretations. If you go to see a Johnson movie hoping for a straightforwardly intense, heteronormative experience, you probably make a mistake.

There are some movie critics out there who seem to be hankering for a specific type of sexuality. I saw a piece a few months ago whinging about how today's movies have sex scenes, but lack the sexiness of the 1980s(!).
