I got up this morning to be awake and logged into DVC for 8 am to hit the very beginning of a booking window. I needed two nights somewhere — anywhere in Florida, really, because Vero Beach was even imaginable altho not optimal. And while there are limits on borrowing, I had a bunch of points to burn, because of canceled vacations. Well, they are burnt, and I had to borrow what was fortunately well within the limit of borrowing. (Future you and other readers: DVC has a limit on making a reservation that involves limiting borrowing to less than 50% of the contract on a per contract basis. They need to get people caught up, and letting people bring future years into the mix is going to make the creaky baling wire and chewing gum contraption seize up completely.) I failed on the place I’ve never stayed, but succeeded on the place that I thought was going to be a once in a lifetime thing a few years back. Which is Fine, because I thought I was only ever doing the one cruise, and that’s probably not going to be true, either.

I had other options (staying somewhere non-DVC for those two nights), and indeed, that was my original plan, until in-laws decided to host a family get together up north while we will be NOT up north, and the people we would normally visit while NOT up north are not going to be home. This is Fine. I have other people I’m traveling with.

After that, I got some breakfast, and started the blueberry bread pudding, and then it was mom’s zoom. Fun! M. is worrying about F.’s request to be on Discord. *shrug* Also, M.’s and her husband have apparently had a bunch of issues around playdates at their house, so there will be no playdates. I think this is code for, people come over just to swim in our pool, but I don’t really know. I may buy a Nara membership this summer after all. She signed F. up for an acting class in Concord, and apparently has No Idea how serious the drama kids in the Concord area are. A. (not my daughter — other mom on the zoom today) and I tried to explain to her, and I just don’t think she believes us. Hopefully we’re wrong. (We’re not wrong.)

After mom’s zoom, the blueberry bread pudding was declared Done (honestly with bread pudding there is a wide range). I got ready for my in person visit, and then M. (Different M.! This is a non-profit donation situation) showed up. First in person with her since pre-pandemic — she was my last hug outside the family (including M., my walking partner, and B., the sitter) until very recently. Super excited to see her, feed her baked goodie and get another hug! We had a lovely chat. She’s doing a second round on Catrice Jackson’s 30 Day Crash Course for White Women, which sounds extremely useful.

Then it was time for a walk with M. (walking partner). Indoor chat and snack.

Today, the fintie case arrived for the new Fire 10 that arrived yesterday. R. set up the new Apple TV that arrived yesterday. Now I can watch HBO Max via the Apple TV box on the upstairs TV, which is an improvement over the generation that did not permit that.

I feel like the transition is the time of All the Things. I’m still doing zoom, and focusing on solid in-home entertainment. Also, I am hosting people in person. I’ll be back at the speakeasy soon for dinner with R. But I’m also juggling more travel, more complex travel, more visits, more figuring out testing for A. in person. Zoom with friends now includes a lot of figuring out whether the next week’s zoom or call will work with in person events. Which is fine! I’ve been lucky to get to interact as much as I have with distant friends for the last year plus.
