We got up, packed up, checked out, loaded up and drove up to The Villages. We drove straight to R.’s mother’s place, where because over various vaccination statuses, we had the closest thing to a real visit that we’ve had in over a year. It was amazing. I mean, last August, my sister and I met on LBI and shared a house with our respective families, but that was the result of careful pre-planned limitations of activities and so forth. This wasn’t. It’s the first time since that August trip that I have prepared a meal with someone other than R., which all by itself was amazing.

We hung out and chatted, then T. wanted to go take pictures of The Villages to share with B., who is thinking about moving down there (her politics would fit right in). So T., R. and C. went for a drive and A. and I stayed put. It was delightful. When they came back, R., A., and I drove over to TownePlace Suites and checked in. A. was Not Impressed with the unit. It was fine; she has a really elevated set of expectations at this point and that might need to be fixed. Once we got the luggage up (note to self: segregate luggage so you don’t have to bring the Big Bag up for a single night stay!), we all used the lone bathroom (yeah, okay, I’m kind of a princess, too, these days) and then headed out to Legacy at Nancy Lopez for dinner with C. and H. H. pre-insisted (via C.) on paying, so I had to be a good sport about it, but wow, that is _hard_ for me. Nearly impossible. No wonder my second cousin in the UK was shocked I let him pay for a meal (only because I could not get the damn kiosk to recognize any of my cards!). I apparently think I’m a Benevolent Patriarch or something (<— unsurprising given my upbringing).

I got the ahi tuna. It was good. There was some complaining from the kids about the “weird bread” (one was a brown bread the kind with the oats on the outside — they ate it just fine, just were suspicious of the whole thing; the other was a rosemary foccacia, and A. wouldn’t eat that one at all), but A. ate the chicken which came out with a lot of seasoning. She has definitely become more flexible on seasoning on chicken.

Really a delight. H. told the story of how he wound up with his long-time job a the state Supreme Court in Michigan. I told stories from the bookstore. Good times.

T. spent the night at C.’s.
