President’s Day

I walked with M.
I immediately did a second loop by myself, but decided I would do a third loop later. This was an error, because by the time I was ready to go out again (almost 4 pm) it was re-freezing and the wet ground was getting slicker by the minute. So instead, I did a mile on the treadmill. I have been using my (very limited) time on the treadmill to try to debug my issues with shoes. Today, I realized two problems with the hokas I bought years ago. I bought them for the extra cushion, and I don’t care for the rounded feature — it makes me feel tippy, especially when I am not moving, which limits the utility of the shoe for other-than-exercise. Today, I learned that when I run in the hokas, my arches start to get very stiff and cramp. Unusually, I just took the shoes off and tried running barefoot, which I don’t normally try on the treadmill. However, A. and I do a lot of jogging around the house to get her some exercise. And it turns out that running barefoot on the treadmill is less painful for me than running in any shoe I have ever owned. Which is quite a discovery to make! Mind you, when I say “running”, I mean “jogging incredibly slowly”, but still. I will do a little research to look for whatever shoes out there have cushioning (because I am still Middle Aged and Fat) but do NOT have any arch support whatsoever. I have never in my entire life cared about arch support as a positive and it occurs to me that maybe I failed to realize that arch support is actually a meaningful negative for me.
I cooked bone-in ribs today in foil. I seasoned them with fresh ground black pepper and cumin (no salt) This is the first time I have done that. They were great. I had them with cole slaw, air fryer’ed parsnips (cubed), with air fryer’ed daikon greens sprinkled on top of the Pepper Palace Chocolate Cherry Bourbon BBQ sauce on the ribs (that is an allium free BBQ sauce, thank you J&J once again, for the amazing holiday present!). The daikon is in vinegar salt and sugar becoming pickled daikon; we’ll see how that is maybe tomorrow. The BBQ sauce is quite low in sodium, so the ribs overall were pretty reasonable. Of course, I ruined it by having ketchup on my parsnip fries.
It is school vacation week. I asked T. to help out with some chores. We put 3 beds of sheets into the laundry. He vacuumed the upstairs hall, his room, and two upstairs bathrooms. I attempted to make a swimming reservation at Atkinson pool for him, but that is turning out to be tricky to do when the weather is pretty sketchy.
A. has been playing a Roblox variant called Skysomethingorother today.
I am making blondies.
I was going to have pizza for lunch today, but the last pizza crusts we had turned out to have gone off in the bag. Oh well!
We are now thawing some beef brisket; that should be really great.
