We finally had a not too horrible pandemic birthday! We approximated a non-pandemic birthday pretty closely: Escape Room with a family we enjoy hanging out with and doing Escape Rooms with. Breakout Games runs a very nice room, very even difficulty and a pleasure to work through the clues. There is a chain link fence used to really good effect in Undercover Alley. I would totally go back.

We handed off a cake to the B. family, then when we got home, sent zoom invites to a bunch of friends and family. K. and T. showed up wearing mask hats (T. was a chicken and K. was wearing a narwhal hat). A. blew a candle out, we sang a raggedy Happy Birthday and there was much random talking over each other, which is _exactly_ what a kids’ birthday party should be. K. mentioned pinatas, so I got out the mini pinata (we cannot remember its name — the parents were Frederick and Frances, but we’ve forgotten the child pinata’s name, oops) and pretended to hit it with a fork, then dropped peppermints on the table. Ha ha ha. A variety of people hung out, and we had a really nice visit. MIL called later, because she did not immediately see the zoom invite, so she got to chat with A., and I showed her A.’s new daybed and fan.

R. has gone off to get a bike ride.
