Here is the key paragraph:
“So far there has been 1 death every 1,166 people under 65 years old (compared to 1 death every 358 people in the general population). And 89% of the times, the person who died had one or more underlying medical conditions.”
There are roughly 20K people in Acton. Virtually all of the children in Acton schools (but not all!) are part of the population of Acton, however, the staff are from other towns _at least as often as not_.
Let’s just ball park this, shall we?
1 death for every thousand people. 20 in town. 2 of those being people under the age 65 with no underlying medical conditions. If we let things go the way things went in NYC. So far that has absolutely not happened here, because it is the burbs, and we shut down early and we shut down hard.
There are a lot of ways to think about this. I guess the one I pick is this: we did not wait for 20 kids in our school district to commit suicide to radically rethink how we delivered education. It took way fewer than 20.
