The ring was flooded at the horse, so no horse. Baseball happened — R. took T. Track happened but only in the morning, but we brought both kids there because horse was canceled. A. started out hungry, so we bailed out to Dunkin, got her a donut and an ice water and that enabled her to do about a half hour of track and leave feeling like she’d had a good time, which is pretty much all I expect out of her and track (a huge step up over any experience I ever had running in any kind of organized way as a kid, I might add).
We had a play date. The kids played a bunch then settled in with popcorn to watch Frozen (their idea). M&M brought black bean soup, and I had a baguette plus the vegan parsley pecan pesto from Sunbasket, so that was all good except for R. who had to scrounge around for something else to eat. The kids had various things.
I took A. grocery shopping with me. Grocery shopping is more expensive with her, probably because she really wants to buy a lot of things in the bakery. I can’t really blame her for that.
The Plated box arrived and was soaked in the downpour.
I made the Chocolate Benny Rabbit / Chocolate D.O.M. / Velvet Savoy Truffle or whatever the heck I’m calling that drink (brandy or bourbon, Tempus fugit creme de cacao, benedictine, with optional chocolate bitters and optional luxardo cherry, served either over crushed ice in a Collins glass or chilled in a coupe) for three of us (1 1:1:.5 no bitters and the others 2:1:.5 bitters IIRC). Then I started trying more of the list of Strega drinks I came up with. The Samantha was _awesome_ — we all liked it which was completely unexpected (it’s a dry martini, but instead of gin, Strega, and no garnish). The St. Joan (a G&T but with Strega instead of gin again) was good, but not as good. I used the Scrappy’s Cardamom bitters in both, and it really does it.
A fun evening to wind up a pretty good day.
