Weather Not As Predicted

Throughout the day, the forecast has lagged reality. It was predicting an inch of snow, until after we had more than an inch. Then it was 1-2, until well after it was looking like 3 around here. Now, 3-5.

One wonders what's ultimately going to land around here, altho it does seem to finally be slowing down some. R. is out running the snow blower; I shoveled to the mailbox earlier. It's very heavy snow, so it would be ideal snow building weather, if anyone around here felt like doing that. Instead, A. is lobbying to set up the kiddie pool. Yeah, right.

Magical thinking? if we set up the kiddie pool it will be summer? Or does she have some idea of how to play with it in the snow? (I am now picturing your entire family sliding down hills in the kiddie pool...)

I pointed out that it was cold. She turned a little sullen/sad/depressed after that, so magical thinking is the probable explanation. She is definitely the one in the family most prone to wish for summer/warm/sun when it is Not.

She is probably recalling the hot tub at Christmas on my sister's deck.

One of the few things that makes me wish I still liked Heinlein is his anecdote about the cat who wanted to find the door into summer.
