First Normal Day of the Year
Jan. 2nd, 2025 11:00 pmOriginally, A. would have been going back to school today, but she’s at Fusion, so not until Monday.
In the meantime, R. tried to get a same day but the nurse on the line sent him to the ER. They sent him home with a DVT diagnosis and a scrip for Xarelto. He’ll be spending some time on the couch. Unfortunately, if you are on this kind of med, you cannot take NSAIDs (bleeding risk) and you aren’t supposed to drink (ulcer risk) so he is extremely miserable.
And the expectation is that this will likely take weeks to fully recover from.
His working theory is this started when we went to Bull Run and he didn’t check his sweatshirt but sat on it. He tried massage and it got better, but a couple plane flights, a few hundred miles of bike riding and walking for a mile on some squishy beach sand really lit that dumpster fire. I will note that the next time he says he has a knot in his legs and calls it an adhesion, I’m going to push for an early DVT assessment so we can find out whether this is a one-off or if this has been going on for a while and misattributing the cause.
I know I misattributed a shellfish allergy for years, and I also misattributed stuff that was likely a form of chronic appendicitis. It’s easy to do, and misdiagnosis by professionals has been known to happen on occasion as well. When we learn better, we do better.
JB at the builder has been asking questions, so that and walking with M. have made for a busy day. There was one online meeting about window treatments that was reassuring and productive.
I’m posting these as catchup posts, but I think today was the day I chatted with J. He has a horrible cold, which really sucks.
I also got a phone call from soon to be former BIL, but permanent uncle to my kids, about my son’s visit. J apparently has to return to NJ to be with J (son), so I redirected to T. to work out the details. T. handled canceling the flight (good for him!) and declined to take the train and plans on driving. We strongly urged him to take the formerly known as Tappan Zee bridge now Cuomo bridge, rather than George Washington. Fingers crossed.
