Obviously, still waiting on a bunch of house races because.

I didn’t sleep great, and I guess I was expecting the result by the time I saw it, but in no way do I feel happy about it. Unsurprisingly, the florida ballot measure did not pass, altho it got more than a majority (the Colorado ballot measure did beat the required 55%). South Dakota and Nebraskas ballot measures did not pass, but the rest did, including Missouri.

It is such a strange mix of results. I don’t understand the thinking behind them at all, but I suppose the coming years will give us a sense of whether the people who voted that way got what they were hoping for.

My gloomy friends and husband so far were overly optimistic — Tester lost, sure, but so did Brown (which I. was not expecting) and Ayotte won (which R. was not expecting).

Some of the analysis I’m seeing suggests that young white men turned out in unexpectedly high numbers. In general, it seems that not enough Ds turned out and all of the other team did turn out, which is also very unexpected in a Presidential election. Everything is different this year, I guess.

I’ve been doing my best to keep perspective, and to share that perspective with A., and friends who are reaching out to me. We’ve had elections go horribly wrong before, and our country was severely harmed as a result and a lot of people died, and those elections advanced us to where we are today. The good news — such as it is — is that our complex governance means that we’ve got a lot of options on how to proceed at the local and state levels, and human nature means as long as we draw breath, we can try to change hearts and minds.

It really does suck, tho. Not as much as growing up JW, but it really does suck.

I drove out for the meeting today. It was high 70s/low 80s, which is insane for Massachusetts in November. I put on sandals and capris, and meant to bring Real Shoes but failed to do so. I probably should just put boots in the car along with the hard hat and vest. That way I can’t forget them.
