I got a new ipad recently, and, as always, I’m having problems with iMessages. So I’m doing updates on everything, and poking around in settings and reddit and trying to figure out what it is. I _think_ I have found it, but I’ve thought I’ve found it before and been wrong. I had not updated the text message forwarding settings. I’m reasonably certain this is a problem I have every single time, altho probably not the only one. I don’t update ipads often enough to remember all the details and of course they change in between anyway.

It’s a nice, calm morning so far, because T. had a late start (he’s a senior, and it’s an MCAS day I think) and A. has a late start this morning.

I’m behind on blogging this week; I’ll try to catch up next.

ETA:

I had a delightful phone conversation with J.

I’ve been working really hard at figuring out doors, which is paused while we wait for the Marvin window rep to “research” whether there are any “smart” which is to say, remote lock/unlock capability on Marvin doors. There aren’t; I have no idea why the rep has to “research” this. I think it’s because the strategy on all multipoint lock door vendors is to pretend there’s nothing to see here until the door is installed and then it’s too late.

I’m also working on lighting, and fighting against the slope down to Lutron Radio Ra 2 or 3. Since the electrician is hyper focused on 0-10V dimming and not super accepting of any alternatives, I decided to try to better understand what’s in the lighting schedule that is resulting in this hyperfocus.

200 cans, is what. What. This is the wrong number of cans (technically, it’s 153 + 39, but still). Very much the wrong number of cans. In an effort to figure out where all those cans are going, we found a page in the conformance set that showed lighting and we looked at it. There are _9_ cans going into _my office_. No. It’s roughly the same size as our current dining room (wow, that’s a whole comparison right there), which has 4 cans. And it’s spec’ed with 800 lumens per can, when our current dining room has 700 lumens per can and it is intolerably bright when those are on, so I just use a pendant alabaster bowl which has 3 450 lumens bulbs. And is fantastic in every way. We looked at the kitchen spec and I about had a heart attack. All cans and under cabinet lighting, nothing indirect. Intolerable. We talked about this, altho to be fair, the conversation was a really long time ago, and this part of the conformance set was done under massive deadline pressure and the entire lighting schedule is line after line of TBD. Anyway. I decided to _stop_ the argument about Lutron or Not Lutron, and instead change it to, let’s go over the plans room by room and correct the problems, and when they are correct _then_ we will work with the electrician on Lutron or Not Lutron. I’m totally prepared to give him Lutron on all strip LED lighting because getting dimmers that don’t flicker or make noise is a beast of a problem and Lutron is probably the correct solution. But he’s clearly worked up about 200 cans, and there shouldn’t be 200 cans so I’m gonna take a lot of those cans out of the plans. Har de har har.

*sigh*

I cried today. Repeatedly. This was not a great day for me. I know these are the good problems, but it didn’t feel good in the moment.
