Today in utterly random: GBL pops up again!

Yeah, yeah, I’ll catch up blog later. I was unpacking, doing laundry and paying bills on Sunday and I’m now sitting up because I keep coughing.

Where was I?

Right. So, there’s some museum in England that has a single Elagabalus coin (see, here it is! Altho no, I did not immediately spot it here either). They put it on display sometimes and have decided to label it with the pronoun “she”, for completely plausible reasons.

I was like, man, I would expect to have more in my brain about 3rd century Roman emperors than was floating to the surface so off to wikipedia to read about Elagabalus (this is when I noticed GBL!). He was high priest of Elagabalus, and it was looking at that wikipedia entry that made me go, d’oh! Shoulda seen it quicker!

Pretty amazing to see how much Elagabalus the teenage emperor did to try to co-opt existing religious stuff into GBL, and how _familiar_ some of it sounds (that black stone thing, especially). Also, he apparently had himself circumcised and didn’t eat pork, so we know where this is all heading. I don’t think there’s anyway of know whether that’s the same black stone or just kinda similar, but one does wonder.

Monday: book group, vacation blogging complete, sourdough

Book group was fun — we talked about North Woods by Daniel Mason, which is a highly crafted and really engaging novel with fantastical elements, set in New England and spans from the Colonial era to the indefinite future.

I caught up on vacation blogging.

I uploaded vacation photos.

I’m pretty sure I did some other stuff today, and it was important but I’m unsure what it was. Altho in the wee hours last night I caught up on paying accumulated bills.

I’ve been using einkorn lately. It grinds up different. It feels different. And as the sourdough crock is more einkorn and less wheat, it’s _really_ different. It browns differently when I bake it. And it has some _rise_. I might try a loaf, just to better grasp what is going on here.

I did not walk with M, because I’m still pretty sick. We did not have a visit, either, because, same.

ETA: After eating a muffin made from the escaped sourdough, I read a little bit about einkorn, and then I went and ordered some emmer and khorasan from Grand Tetons Ancient Grains, since my current grain provider hasn’t gotten to either of those yet as near as I can tell.

Also, apparently there’s a risotto like dish but with emmer (farro). Hmmm. I had known there was a wheat version of risotto but I was not interested but honestly, after getting to know einkorn, I’m prepared to entertain the possibility.
