Random crap
Jan. 10th, 2024 07:14 pmAfter every trip, I go over the things I forgot (makeup remover cloth), the things that worked well, and the things that did not. I try to figure out how to modify the things that did not work well, and how to make sure the things that worked well do not accidentally become things I forget on the next trip. And I try not to forget the same thing over and over again.
This feeds into the I Keep Buying Luggage theme, obviously.
Anyway.
There really is no such thing as One Bag to Rule Them All. There is no handbag that can be optimized simultaneously for air travel, theme park touring and going out to a nice restaurant in the evening. So I’ve decided to really lean into the fact that this is true, while simultaneously being a bit more orderly while transiting. Basically, I want a super light weight underseat bag that sits firmly atop the spinner and contains the theme park bag(s) as organizers and some other crap like the bag of chargers and The Lunch.
I really thought I had the perfect choice, but when it arrived, the part that is the trolley sleeve / luggage sleeve / luggage strap / thing that holds it firmly to your spinner, well, it is a quarter to a half inch too short. The handle of my spinner is 7”. And the sleeve is 7”. But the spinner handle has some depth and the sleeve has no stretch. After 20 minutes of wasted time on Amazon trying to find something of the correct dimensions AND with an adequately sized luggage strap, I thought, Self! A. has the Perfect Solution. I confirmed that it is the Perfect Solution. And I bought a second one in a different color.
You would think that this would have occurred to me sooner, but no. We’re basically going to have the same kit in the end, only my spinner is marginally Fancier than hers (same brand, different level) and my underseat tote that sits on top of the spinner is just a different color but otherwise identical.
At least I have some confidence that this will work. The Ahsoka daypack and the Universal Studios mini-satchel fit perfectly with room to spare, while the expansion is zipped closed. I’m feeling pretty good about this.
ETA: Also, some of the items arrived yesterday, including a Japanese knot bag that was listed as “brown” but absolutely is not “brown”. It is a lustrous bronze and very beautiful and the perfect evening bag that folds flat and if wrinkled, it won’t matter at least not very much since the folds are part of the deal. AND it is a dead match for the golden brown tones on the Ahsoka bag. A winner, for sure!
Also, Travelpro keeps serving me ads on FB, which I am Fine with, especially since all of the backgrounds for the beautiful luggage are on trains. Mmmm.
