Saturday: piano lesson, Ibn Battuta
Dec. 9th, 2023 03:10 pmA.’s history class has some Ibn Battuta related reading and questions. Super cool! I re-listened to, with her (for the first time) the You’re Dead to Me podcast about Ibn-Battuta. I understood more this time. We followed along on a map, and I understood better when the two separate trips took place. We still couldn’t figure out one of the desolate places that Ibn Battuta stopped at on the camel caravan on the trip to Mali, but I think we figured out everything else with the aid of google maps and wikipedia and various sources that explain the travels.
Because this podcast includes the trip to Mali, Mansa Musa is mentioned, altho at the time of Ibn Battuta’s visit the ruler is Mansa Suleyman. A. remembers Mansa Musa because they earlier learned some about him. It’s clear that there is an established curriculum about Africa at this point, and I’m bouncing off of bits and pieces of it as my daughter covers it in her 9th grade history class.
