I got my hair done today. It is delightfully purple. I am happy.
Our HVAC continues to be worked on. It‘s going to take a little longer than anticipated; there was some kind of weird setup on the 3rd floor that needed to be reworked a bit. That‘s fine!
I‘ve really been trying very hard to avoid as much low voltage wiring in the new house we are planning but wow do people want to install stuff. I think I have _finally_ killed the Lutron proposal (it is _such_ a zombie and keeps coming back and I keep hitting hit even harder every time). I also talked to the architect about the pool and fitness room speakers / sound system. He proposed a whole house thing and I was like absolutely not. But I‘m kind of excited about the sound system in the pool, and he suggested I just spec it out which honestly is for the best because I‘m just gonna bitch about anything anyone else suggests. I‘m not going completely on tilt with this, but I found a nice Denon all-in-one box that should do for the wired speakers in those two area, and is enough to drive the underwater Clarks and some wall speakers. I‘m waffling on the wall speakers, looking at Axioms and Revels.
R. was talking to the HVAC people and mentioned the size of the service being spec‘ed for the new house and the electrician said he worked on a project with some kind of smart system that made sure that the things with really big initial loads didn‘t try to start up at the same time. I relayed that to our electrician, and he‘s talking to the engineering firm about it. We‘ll see what comes of it. The size of the service needed if you just add up all the peak loads if they happened at the same time is insane, and we‘ve been going around in circles on this for a couple months (since the beginning of October, if not longer). I cannot believe that we had to bring this up, but it‘s a weird situation in a lot of different ways.
I dug into Ring security options in more detail, because I really don‘t want any security wiring, either, and I figured I might as well just pre-empt that. I‘ve already told the architect that‘s what I want to do. There seem to be some concerns that if you have too much stuff managed through Alexa it will cause unspecified latency / slow network problems. I also did some research online to try to figure out what the hell they were talking about. There are numerous possibilities, none of which would seem to apply to what we are doing, but I am going to try to figure out some ways to logically separate stuff in case we need to run things off multiple accounts. It might make sense to do so anyway, so that the various household members can control their own devices. Separate accounts but all connected via Amazon Household might actually make a lot of things work better anyway.
