Saturday: recovering from flu vaccine
Sep. 23rd, 2023 11:00 pmA. had a tougher time than I expected with the flu shot we got Friday night. She started her virtual piano lesson okay, but flamed out. She came out of her room later complaining of a lot of pain on her other shoulder, so I gave her a jr ibuprofen and after a little while she was a whole lot better. It kinda swelled up cartoonishly. I probably should prophylatically give her ibuprofen with these things.
I really wanted some extra sleep, so I did not go to martial arts and Vic’s with T.
A. got to spend a chunk of the day playing Roblox and other games online with her friend K., which is great, because she initially said no since she felt so bad. And she had really wanted to spend some time this weekend with her friend, but on Friday, all she got was I Have Too Much to Do. Three day weekend! No homework! Why. I kinda panicked on Friday, because due to school switches and someone moving, this wiped out a really nice friend group A. had in jr hi. We figured out when Danny’s Place is reopening. The library in town has a teen volunteer program. And R. found a thing in Framingham run by Out Metrowest that might be helpful.
I looked at what the Stow and Littleton UU churches had to offer, so that’s another potential backup plan. I feel like the social justice mission of UU would be a good fit for A., but wow, R. is really negative on it, despite often referring back positively to his experiences at Bement, which was a church-affiliated camp. *shrug* We’ve got a list of things to try, so I’m no longer feeling desperate.
A. and I also did some online shopping for some shirts, because she went to put on a flannel button down and it really did not fit.
R. ran the lower oven with the windows open and then cooked a chicken. Yum! I made an apple pie. I assembled the Lego Trash Compactor. It was really tricky to figure out a couple corners of that, but is a deeply satisfying build. I really like it. I listened to a bunch of Smart Podcast Trashy Books, and a crossover with Heaving Bosoms that summarized the first half of Dragon Called. That was weirdly fun. I might listen to more of those summaries.
