I Now Have an Adult Child
Aug. 17th, 2023 11:00 pmSo weird!
We had a party at the Horseshoe, and a bunch of people showed up. There were some drop offs, but enough adults hung around to make it a fun party for me, too. Very nice! I bought really big balloons 1, 8 and reasonable balloons saying Happy Birthday at Roche Bros. We remembered the candles, and the lighter thingie, and the restaurant stored the cake in their fridge for us. Our server was fantastic. I got to meet the martial arts instructor’s wife and she was super nice. S. came and brought the two kids (lots of driving for one party, we really appreciate that she came!).
A. did not go to the party because she is still coughing a lot from her cold.
I did get a couple walks in, so that was nice.
I finished reading _Charlie All Night_, the last of the Jennifer Crusie bundle. The Will and Grace crossed with WKRP in Cincinnati makes for a lot of opportunities to discuss relationships and/or politics, and then that turns into a bet about who can hold out longer in terms of not having sex. The argument is an interesting premise — men getting most / all of their emotional needs met through sex vs. women getting them met in other ways and not needing sex as much — but poorly developed and patently untrue in the novel and mostly in real life as well. But the development of it is oddly disappointing, as the effort to avoid their chemistry results in them avoiding each other outside of work and somehow that avoiding deepens their feelings to become love? Very … The Rules, in a bonkers sort of way. *shrug* Like the (other) Riverbend books, Tuttle is very Ohio of a certain time and place.
I’m thinking I might reread Dogs & Goddesses next, but we’ll see.
