R. and I got up early and walked over to Trinity College to see the Long Hall and the Book of Kells. Interesting to look at the organizational scheme, and I have questions now about Usher! Ushers Quay and Bibliotheca Usseriana. A bunch of donors to the restoration also have inscriptions. 4 women have busts now — the last of the historical spaces to get some diversity in gender terms.

We walked around Temple Bar and looked at a free exhibit of the National Photographic Archive. Fun stuff! Electric streetcars from before 1916 in Dublin. Ha!

We also bought combo tickets at Christchurch and then did Dublinia. Very nicely done, but I am so glad I did the whisky museum because none of the alcohol related stuff is mentioned but it is all there in the backstory. We climbed up St Michael’s Tower and I was once again grateful we had not brought A. with us. Lots of steps! Nice views. And also, R. asked what a tower was in the distance and I was like, hey, that used to have a windmill on it for Guinness, which I learned on the whisky museum tour. Of course I forgot the name: St. Patrick’s Tower.

We woke up A. and talked briefly to T., who had bought postcards, lost them and was in the process of returning to buy them again. Oh well! I set A. up with a pretzel and grapes from Lidl and R. and I went out to lunch. I had eaten the other half of the Eton Mess donut from The Rolling Donut for breakfast and brought tea in a thermos and drink it while walking around Temple Bar. I ate the Ferrera Rocher donut while getting A. going and doing duolingo. We were going to eat at the Tailor’s Hall pub, but their food truck folk were not yet in, so we walked back out and headed to Temple Bar again. We looked at the Bouwery in Jurys Inn, and then I thought, oh, hey, how about Zampas! But we passed Bull and Castle and I remembered I only nixed it because of the kids and they were not with us.

I had a whiskey sour with Teelings and an egg and R. said it was the best whiskey sour he had ever had. Honestly, I think it is the best one I have had also. I went up to tell the bartender. He said it was the love he put in it. Dublin has the very Best Banter. He got a beer and a beef salad, and I got the fish and chips. The smashed peas had mint in them and were really tasty, surprisingly. The haddock was perfect and the fries were good. In a short trip full of great beverages and good food, this was the best of all.

We walked over to S.’s apartment Smithfield Lofts at 4 and we had snacks. It was intended to be a pre-dinner, but like C., she put on such an amazing spread that I had zero interest in dinner after and no one made any specific moves to go get a real dinner. We left around 9. Great conversation.

I did pre-packing and set up an outfit for the next morning.

They are off to Corfu tomorrow and we head over to England.
