Saturday: routine and quiet
Jan. 21st, 2023 06:35 pmT. took himself off to martial arts and Vic’s, and then piano lessons happened. Blissfully, I was not required for anything other than a scheduling checkin with the piano instructor and payment.
I went for a walk by myself. My walking partner and I have agreed that Saturdays have too much stuff going on so we should skip a visit that day. Also, I’ve been feeling like I have a cold lately. Not a severe one, but her mom does not need any further immune system challenges.
I finished Lego Jazz Club. It is delightful in every way! Also, more lego arrived. Yikes. Nothing big this time! Mostly some rabbit stuff and other small kits, including Moana’s way finding boat.
T. went to basketball, and then did some grocery shopping for us. Since we keep forgetting to put hamburger buns on the list, I finally just said fuck it, and started making a batch with the king arthur special patent and some sourdough. They are baking right now.
ETA:
Zoom last night was delightful.
Also, the backpack I ordered arrived, and I shoved almost everything into it, after some editing. There were some things like the packable duffel and packable jackets dangling, and also, by the time it was stuffed full of everything, it was way too cubical to fit under an airline seat. But that is fine. I opened up the packable duffel and the jackets and shoved them into the duffel and generally evened things out and I am feeling very happy with the color scheme and the functionality. I particularly like that I can get basically all of it on my back in a single bag if I want to while walking around, even if I do have to separate it into two bags for the plane.
I also have managed to get some input from other people on arrival / departure dates of a future trip, so there’s that.
ETAYA:
Sadly, my son apparently went out to dinner and had ice cream and didn’t have any lactaid pills with him. He drove home and threw up all over the car. I’m like, okay, let’s go over what you do in the future. One: if you are going to have milk products, check to make sure you have the pills before you eat any, ideally, before you order any. Two: if you are in a car, and feel nauseous, pull over immediately / as soon as you safely can. Open the door. Throw up on the ground, the road, the shoulder, the dirt, whatever. He had this idea he had to go into the woods. No. Really, it’s much better to throw up on the ground than in a functioning car. You won’t have to clean it up, and if anyone cleans it up, it’ll be less impactful than having to clean upholstery and so forth. Three: we have emesis bags _in the car_. Use them if you cannot for some reason throw up on the ground. R. went over how to use them.
R. didn’t want to clean it up, and I can’t really blame him but also, come on, the detailing place is closed on Sunday. What, the plan is to just let it sit there and marinate for 2 days? Bad plan! I went out with a scraper, a watering can and a roll of paper towels and decided that was not going to cut it. I needed a brush and suction. I was prepared to destroy a vacuum cleaner, but gave R. the option of presenting an alternate piece of equipment. He brought the steam cleaner up from the basement, which promptly self-destructed in a really, really bad way. Black smoke. Very persistent black smoke. We opened windows, doors, put in fans. Really bad. Set off the smoke alarm, and that’s _despite_ tripping the GFI more or less instantly. *sigh* He had a perfectly good wet-dry vac and that’s what I wound up using. I have no idea why he didn’t get it out first. He put the steam cleaner in the garage and it stank that up so bad I had to open the garage door, put it in the driveway (do not slip on the ice!) and then leave the door open to air out the garage. Because it was not cold enough out there already? I found a shoe brush (of the plastic and nylon variety, so no guilt if it died and it didn’t and is very cleanable) and that plus the wet dry vac got almost all of it out. I used a knife to get some of the crevices and we pulled the mat out once we weren’t going to just dump vomit onto the clean carpet under the mat, and I cleaned that out in the kitchen sink. Sort of. It’s original equipment, and we’ve never done anything besides vacuum it and the dirt is just ground in.
I’m going to see if I can find a detailing place that is open tomorrow.
Also, this _is_ my new reason for never letting my son use my new car.
