Tuesday: kid home sick
Sep. 13th, 2022 09:17 amI got behind on blogging again, but I think I now know what it was!
Things I will try to remember to come back to. Some person on twitter with works like swashbuckler, pickpocket, etc., with the verb-noun construction, they are all from A Certain Group of People, and all from a compressed time period. Urbanization. Suppression of the Irish language. This construction in other Germanic languages. Every related language calls a bat a flymouse or flyingmouse.
I didn’t think A. should go to school, but she did, and so I got called in to pick her up from school about a half hour after school started. I think we’ve all been coming down with whatever this is (we both tested negative for covid last, but I may test her again today or tomorrow, as we have lots of tests).

I spent the day doing vacation planning. I still feel kinda under the weather, and I didn’t go for any walks today. I did cook some apples with a thick batter, first in a covered pot on the stove, then I broiled the top. It was good, but needed a lot more apple. So I cooked more apples, and served those on the side with the rest of the cake. Yum. That was dinner. Probably not the best dinner, but pretty awesome.
In my efforts to find a place about halfway between my sister and I, I learned today that Bucks County Pennsylvania is full of fun things to do and what looks like really good beer and food. And also has a lot of very hilly roads suitable for road biking. Very, very hilly roads. Now that I know _to_ look for people who have identified and shared good routes, it turns out that I am about as good at finding those as I am finding anything else on the web. Rather than rent a house, I opted for a suites hotel with an indoor pool. I also found a cave, and a place that does escape rooms and a ropes course and one of those axe throwing operations. We are going to Do All the Things. I don’t think normal people would drive more than a couple hours to do any of this, but finding this almost exactly halfway between Boston and DC is kinda fantastic.
