I had prepped for this more than usual, in that I pre-planned lunch and dinner stops. Miraculously, this worked. We stopped at a McDonald’s in Newburgh, NY, and that was a McDonald’s so no big surprise there. We stopped at other McDonalds on the way (picking up coffee, a pastry, whatever) to use bathrooms, but I’m not counting those. We actually went in and ate at the one in Newburgh.

For dinner, we stopped at the Colonial Restaurant in Hagerstown, MD. We arrived slightly in advance of the big wave, so there were people waiting for food and a relatively occupied bar when we got there, and it was pretty full by the time we left. Friendly, clean, and very much the kind of place I grew up going to as a kid. Country, in a Not for the Tourists sort of way.

We got in after 10:30 pm (left around 8:30), with probably 11 hours of driving. The kids were troopers, and we’re going to break the trip on the way home, probably in Harrisburg and try to see R.’s aunt who lives in Middletown. It’s nice to know we _can_ do this long of a run, but I don’t see any reason to do it again on the way home.

The “castle” in Wirtz is hilarious and awesome, and the first thing we did was figure out how to turn off / unplug all of the arcade games, because they are _loud_ and _bright_.
