Friday: first day in the park
Jul. 26th, 2019 11:00 pmWe were not staying on property and I had not bought season passes, so we went in at 10 am. I had not bought fast track passes for anyone ahead of time (I did buy us 3 day tickets, which was partially an error, and my sister’s family 2 day tickets, which was correct for them). I bought T. an unlimited fast track (should have gone with the one time per ride) and he went off with R. My sister’s family got in before we did, and they got stuck in both the Cupfusion (upgraded dark ride with shooting) and Laff Track lines. But they did get to ride both, so that is something.
A. and I took a more leisurely approach. She did Starship. I got a strawberry smoothie (actual berries and a ton of ice and no milk products). She got popcorn. We did bumper cars and trailblazer and had lunch at Gourmet Grill. We spent a bunch of time at Bayside Pier in the water park.
Eventually, we headed out. We planned to get a Lyft or Uber back to the hotel, as there is no resort transport from the parks to the Suites (not on property). It is conceivably walkable, but no sidewalk or path and a fairly busy road with a not wonderful shoulder. Also, over a mile. R. wanted to go with us, tho, which led to some frustrating start stop with making sure T. was okay staying in the park and where his locker was and an argument over whether he could have his iPad in the park (no! Come on!).
We got back to the hotel. A. and I had dinner in (she had a grilled cheese; I had a salad with salami on it, and chips with guac and salsa). The menfolk went next door to the brewpub (Troegs) and ate with their beer. R. retrieved T.
I learned that R.’s aunt, who officiated at our wedding, was in the hospital a couple miles away in the morning (wow, was it a chaotic morning, actually — do not try to sleep in on the first day of a trip. Everything happens at once and everyone wants to talk about it). R. went to go visit her after dropping T. off at the hotel.
