It felt like a travel day.

My walking partner left for a road trip, so we did not walk.

Kids’ departure to school went normally. After that, I drove up to Brookline, NH to walk with a friend I had not seen in a long while. We went walking in Cider Mill Pond ... conservation area? Not sure. The trail was put in after we moved down here, so I guess it is not surprising I did not know it, but still. I have driven past it so many times! We had tea at the Cozy Tea Cart after, which was very pleasant. I adore her, and love talking to her. She is so unbelievably smart, and compassionate, and passionate about wonderful things, and an oasis in the form of a person.

After that, I drove back to Acton, and R. and I had lunch at NYAJ’s, which has a new menu with a bunch of dietary options (but not any specifically DF). I ordered the vegetarian version of the lettuce cups; it was really tasty.

Then I got all the sand out of my car from hiking (and washed my feet, which really needed it from hiking). R. dropped me at the train station for the 211 into Boston, and I met a different friend at Boston Beer Works #3. We tried to figured out when we last saw each other (he was in town for a job interview), and the best we can figure, probably 15 years. Yikes! We need to do better than that! Very, very fun conversation. He had a roller with him (west coaster, out here for a job interview), but has never lost his adventurous spirit, so we walked over to the Rose Kennedy Greenway, where I made vague gestures up in the air, muttered about the elevated that is no longer there, the Big Dig, and pointed out the little signs about the augmented reality experiences that neither one of us felt like devoting the time to experiencing. We walked down it, but all the swings were in use (almost got one!), and then walked over to the markets. At that point, it was time to catch an Uber to the airport for him. I jogged onto the 5:55 departing train (I sort of wish I had missed it; the one a half hour later was an express, but I really did not care).

That would have been a boring and/or miserable day if the weather had been different, but as it was, it was glorious. Great company, good food, nice walks, seeing familiar places and faces that I have not seen in a while.
