I took T. to martial arts. That went well. We had breakfast at Vic’s after.
In the afternoon, we had movie night. T. wanted one after seeing how A.’s movie night for her birthday went. I wanted to put it off until January / after the holiday season, but he really wanted it right away and this was the first Saturday that was even remotely reasonable (not traveling, etc.).
Movie night was fun. We had a bunch of leftovers, but they’ll get eaten over the course of the week.We knew some of the parents well, others only glancingly and some we had never met. All the kids are on the spectrum, so it is great hanging out with parents who are having very similar experiences. They are all nice people, altho it is clear that there is quite a range of political perspective in the group. (What to say when someone raves about John McCain, and someone else says, who doesn’t love John McCain? Turn around and wash dishes, and if pressed, acknowledge that he was definitely his own man and seemed to treat the women in his life well, which are good things. It really is a moment like this that makes me realize that while I am _very_ spectrum-y, even I know better than to put my host on the spot like that.)
This is the first party that T. has attended where he did not have any kind of meltdown at all. He’s clearly trying really hard.
