When I went to pick A. up at school, I had a brief meeting with the principal (his request). I had no idea what to expect, and there’s no way I _could_ have seen it coming, because another parent at the school decided to entirely make up something to accuse me of doing. Conveniently, I was accused of doing it in the mornings at school, when the principal is out front and thus he knew perfectly well that I never had any such interaction with the other parent’s offspring. I haven’t even seen the other kid in days.

Note to self: never, ever, ever give into the temptation to become friends with someone who you can tell up front reminds you a lot of someone who struggles with their connection to reality. I know, I know. You _think_ your social skills have reached a point where you can deal with their flights away from reality. But this is delusional thinking. Give it up!

I told my sister, my husband, my son’s babysitter (knows all parties involved, including the principal, and thus a source of experience and wisdom), posted about it anonymously on FB (my FB is locked down pretty thoroughly) and generally collected a lot of sympathy and a short list of ideas for how to proceed. High on that list is to involve the other parent of the offspring in question, should something further arise. There’s no reason they can’t share in the joy here.
