What's his face, very excitable freshman House Democrat, described the Republicans as the party of, well, a lot of things, and the lack of a lot of things, and also as the nattering nabobs of negativity. I could not help but think I'd heard that somewhere before.

The freshman (in the news for describing the Republican health care plan as don't get sick and if you do get sick, just die quickly) took a turn of phrase originated by Safire and associated with Agnew in his attacks on the press, and turned it right back against the Republicans.

It's a weird world. The Republicans are the party of don't-cut-Medicare. A Democrat is using a phrase from Safire/Agnew.

Life in the sausage factory.
