Monday is MLK jr day
Jan. 19th, 2026 04:53 pmLots to think about.
Later, I’ve got book group, _The Place of Tides_ by James Rebanks. It’s pretty heavy handed in a variety of ways, but I learned a lot, and it’s not like I wildly disagree with any of the heavy handedness. More that I think he made an awful lot about slowing down and listening to what women tell you to do and not being so completely full of oneself all the time. Are these important lessons? Definitely! That story about the whales and the seal tho was kinda wild. Rebanks utterly failed to draw the obvious “wow that could have been me” that I’m fairly certain was intended by the person who told him the tale. I guess he didn’t want to detract from the rest of what he was getting at.
Anyway. It’ll be interesting chatting about it this evening.
Not a lot else happened around here today. I read A.’s IEP, tried to fill in the boxes, got stumped (because the IEP suggests a placement and it’s not where A. was, is or will be, but I absolutely don’t want to reject the placement and kick off some process — I just want to keep the paperwork ticking along so it’s available should she choose to attend college or other post-secondary educational institution) and failed to get help. Honestly, I was surprised I got a refreshed link to the docusign. I’ll try again tomorrow when folks are working.
I did some laundry. I’ve been piecemeal cleaning the kitchen, and today I got the counter stools up and R. ran a vacuum and the Brava mop. The floor is no longer crunchy, which is important because some of that crunchiness was likely sand that got tracked in. I don’t want my desperately in need of refinishing floor kicking up splinters. Ouch.
M. came over for a visit. R. ran the snowblower because it snowed a bunch late yesterday and I didn’t notice in time to go shovel it last night. Other than book group, I’ve got a zoom with I. post book group. R. will head off to the construction site tomorrow and I’ll get A. to and from school and probably bring M. to the library.
