R. took A. to and from school. I drove out to Florence, and then stopped in Fitchburg to give T. the small tree, a string of lights and go out to dinner at Mill City Pub. Mill City Pub was tasty. T. told me he’s aiming to do the 3 + 3 program at FSU / UMass Dartmouth, rather than go for a history degree aiming for paralegal. This is, obviously, a change, however, what is freshman year at college for, if not to change your mind? I asked him what he told the counselor at the college to cause them to suggest he aim for this program, and apparently he proceeded to list off all his lawyer relatives.

Ok.

So, I told both kids more than once that they don’t need to have jobs that pay their bills unless they’re super committed to having nothing more to do with me ever, and I further told them that if they had some mission in life, we could figure out a way to connect them to a nonprofit or set up a nonprofit as a vehicle for that. I got no takers on that initially from either of them, but there are aspects to this plan that look like that’s kind of where T. is headed. He specifically wants to do constitutional law, and he wants to do policy work cleaning up / decluttering the federal statutes with a view to introducing things like sunsetting, indexing, removing statutes that have been superceded by court decisions, etc. LOL. 100% my kid vibe. It’s difficult for me to believe this will ever really happen, however, seems cool and why not see what happens along the way.

A. has a really swollen tonsil. Hmmm.
